March- My Grace Is Sufficient For You

Happy month of Spring! The monthly message is: My Grace Is Sufficient For You

Never was my Christian faith more tested than with my daughter, during Bella's journey with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer, that began when she was 12 years old. We spent many weeks in the hospital and every day, while she slept, I would go to the chapel and desperately pray. Shamefully, not once could I pray for God's will but only for my will- begging Him for complete healing upon our daughter, Bella. Ultimately, two weeks after Bella turned 15 years old, God completely healed her and called her home. Her death was the most peaceful event after her two plus years of intense suffering. Even though it wasn't the earthly healing we were hoping for, I can only imagine the joyful reunion in Heaven!

 However, our hearts and lives were shattered! How could we live without our child? We wondered why God didn't answer our prayers? My husband was so angry at God! We discovered during the darkest times in our lives is when we cling to God the most. He is the ONLY ONE who can sustain us to face another day.

In desperate situations we may offer bargains to God for our well being. While God hears every prayer, He may not answer our pleas or provide immediate relief from our situation, but He will be with us and on our side. Therefore, we do not need to fear any danger, including death. 

By surrendering our hearts to God, we learn to trust in His will upon our lives because we realize we can't do it on our own. As the apostle Paul pleaded with God to take the thorn out of his flesh that was tormenting him, here was God's response to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12:9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. ¹⁰ That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

When we surrender our hearts to God, He can do amazing things in us and through us. This is evident by the charity that Bella began from her hospital bed to help children with cancer that God gave us the strength to continue.  God has blessed us with over 8,000 ways to impact others during the last 9 years through Angel Heart of Hope, without a salary.

 As we approach retirement and close the nonprofit at the end of this year, we are continuing our partnership with the Osteosarcoma Institute in memory of Bella for better treatments and hopes of survival for others battling this rare and aggressive bone cancer. There hasn't been a new treatment in over 40 years. Since OSI's inception in 2017 they already have 2 clinical trials and their administrative salaries are covered by a private foundation.
