November- Thankful and blessed!

The holiday season is upon us! As we prepare for the holidays we thank God for all of you and wish you a blessed season.

The monthly message is: “Thankful and blessed!"

Recently, I saw a photo of a blessing jar. The purpose is for you and/or your family members to write on a piece of paper daily or randomly something that you are thankful for. When you are having a bad day, difficult moment or actually anytime you want, you open the jar and pull out one of those slips of paper. The slips are filled with gratitude which cause you to reflect on the positive moments in life even during difficult moments. You can make your own blessing jar and begin this tradition of moments of “Thanksgiving.”

Often we have heard that no matter what you are going through in life, someone always has it harder than you. It is vital to focus on our blessings and what we have to be thankful for. Even one small thing of gratitude can change your perspective on whatever you are facing.

I found this to be difficult as our child was battling cancer when so many fears

would consume me. However, as I prayed and tried to thank God for the many simple things that I often took for granted, like being there for my sick daughter, l could find some peace in those unbearable moments.

Giving thanks has a way of changing our view of any situation and can bring joy amidst the tears.

The Bible has enthusiastically praised the benefits of giving thanks to God which reminds us of His unconditional loving character. The book of Psalms repeatedly calls God’s people to give Him thanks because “the Lord is good and His love endures forever” (Psalm100:5) and to thank Him for His unfailing love and wonderful deeds. (107:8, 15,21,31).

When we focus on God, we can come to Him with anything on our hearts in thanksgiving. As the holidays approach, may we reflect on the many blessings in our lives with gratitude that bestows peace and nurtures your spirit with joy.

Scripture verse: Philippians 4:6 In every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
