October- Stepping into a new season

Happy Fall! Thank you to everyone who supported our September fundraiser during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and may God bless all of you!

The monthly message is: STEPPING OUT IN FAITH

Most people remember when they got baptized unless they were an infant or small child. Close to my parents home, I attended a very small church by myself for years and accepted Jesus into my heart as a child. I felt a tugging on my adult heart so I made the decision to be baptized at 18 years old. In this same small church, I was sprinkled at the time but the feeling was magnified with immense joy, love and peace. This outward declaration of faith would carry me through some difficult moments throughout my life but has given me the strength to privately and publicly stand firm on my faith foundation.

After several moves to different states and as time passed, a church that we currently attend offered a re-dedication of your baptism with full water immersion. A close and special friend, Tammy, who was battling cancer asked me if I would like to join her. The gowns we wore were from church members who had the opportunity to visit the Jordan River where Jesus was baptized. It was such a special moment for both of us. Tammy is now deceased and in Heaven with our Lord and Savior but I will cherish this memory forever. 

Upon rising out of the water, I saw heaven open up and a multitude of doves soaring everywhere. It was the most beautiful site! Over 40 years have passed since my baptism when I was 18 and a lot has happened in my life including the loss of my 15 year old daughter, Bella, to cancer. 

As I stepped out of the water during the re-dedication of my baptism, it felt as if I was stepping out in faith with renewed strength and peace that surpasses all understanding. This strength, all from God, has enabled me to be an anchor of faith for my family and a bright witness to others that we have hope in Jesus. 

The Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years. As the priests came upon and stood on the banks of the Jordan River carrying the ark of the covenant,  they realized the water was dangerously high. They had to make a choice to either step into the water and trust in God that He would help them or to stay on shore. They took a leap of faith and stepped into the water and God caused the waters to recede.

When we trust God with our lives, He gives us the courage to move forward on a firm faith foundation. If we step out in faith, God will do the rest. 

Scripture verse: Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.
