September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month- "Go Gold"

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The cancer ribbon is "Gold" because just like the precious metal, children are our most precious treasure.

Angel Heart of Hope Ministry will be fundraising this month. Funds raised will support our programs including: pediatric cancer cure research, gifts for the children in the hospital and financial assistance to help families with rent, mortgage, utilities and funeral expenses. All children with cancer deserve better cancer treatments and a chance to grow up. Your support is vital and we thank you for being "Angels" for these children. The monthly message is: Tattered and Worn

I was walking down the street in a foreign country behind an elderly gentleman and noticed that he was shuffling along in his tattered clothes and shoes. I could see holes in the soles of his shoes exposing the bottom of his feet. My heart was broken as I wondered "How did he end up this way? Did he not have any family to help him?" Yet, as I looked at his face, he had a warm smile. I quietly approached him and told him I would like to purchase a new pair of shoes for him. He looked bewildered so I asked a young man to explain to him my intentions and gave the elderly man the money which he placed in his worn out pouch. He humbly nodded and scurried along.

This happened in front of a church and I went inside to pray for the elderly man. I cried wondering if he had food or shelter and asked God to please provide for his needs.

This trip overseas was to attend a funeral and I was mentally and physically exhausted. However, this experience made me realize that we are all tattered and worn out in some way. We can all use a gentle touch, kind word or heartwarming gesture in some manner that can truly lift our spirits. By doing so, we are treating others with love and kindness like Jesus. Not only are we storing up treasures in heaven but maybe we are treating angels unaware.

Scripture verse: Hebrews 13:2 Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by so doing some people have shown hospitality to angels without knowing it.
